Divination & The Tools of the Trade
So what is Divination? Well as you can see from the letters, the word is formed from "Divine" which in itself has many meanings. The aim of this site is to keep it simple so this is the simple version or my version, which surmount to the same thing.
Divination is basically the process for seeing things that are hidden or foreseeing the things that are yet to pass. I must stress at the outset that this is a powerful gift and whether you have the gift or not would ask that you are careful with what you tell people when doing this type of work. If people are coming to see you then they normally have something on their mind, a bit like a Doctor really... you only see them when something is not quite right. There are exceptions but please consider the person you are reading for as it is easy for people to live their lives to the reading. For example, you tell someone that she is going to meet a red haired man and she will marry them and be happy forever. A week later a dark haired man comes into her life and she thinks 'Nar, can't be him as he does not have red hair'. Crude example I know but it could even be on a subliminal level for the person concerned. I am not saying don't tell the person everything but just be careful with the words you use.
Now then I always trust what I am told and this works very well, if I have a man in front of me and the cards or whatever are telling me he is pregnant then I will tell him that even if it is ridiculous, WHY? Because if you start guessing as to what you think the person wants then you are just making it up and that's not what divination is about, it's about reading what you are given. It may well be that he understands the message but you won't know unless you read what you have in front of you. The biggest thing for divination is to trust what you have. This can be difficult when reading for people you know well as you may already think you know what they will want to know and as such go off on a tangent.
Divination in my experience will often tell people what they already know but haven’t accepted yet.
Tools of the trade.
Well you can use whatever you want really but you first need to explain the 'rules'. What do I mean by 'rules'? Well if you are going to tell the future using a piece of buttered bread you need to say that if it lands spread side down it's 'No' and if it's spread side up then it's 'yes'. Again silly example but I honestly believe that you can use anything as long as it is known as that's its purpose. This is not a recommendation as there are much cooler things to use than a piece of bread that's been on the floor 50 times! These are the better known tools, which I will explain one by one.
Tarot cards, Crystal Ball, & Dice. There are many more but I am here to show you what I know, not what I don't.
Tarot cards.
I hope to build a full course on this but am obviously going to take time so here are the basics. First thing you need to do is pick your cards. Although we often go for the one's that best suite us I would suggest that you try and go for something simple rather than a set that has a massive book attached etc. I would also stay away from sets that do not have an individual picture for 'all' of the cards especially when just beginning. The reason for this is that you really want to learn the cards and it helps if they have a picture that can help you understand the meaning. I have a couple of sets of cards and strongly recommend the 'Rider Waite' set for beginners. I still use mine when reading for 'clients'. An excellent book to get you off the mark is 'Tarot by Jane Lyle' and this contains several card types. You will no doubt here lots about connecting with your cards, keeping them under your pillow etc? Well this is not mumbo jumbo and I have to say it is an extremely important exercise in mastering the tarot. When you get your set or if you already have a set spend time with it, carry it with you, even talk to the cards. Sounds silly? Well remember the previous pages on energy? You are giving the cards their purpose and the more you handle them the more they will connect with your energy. I have had my 'Waite' set for about 10 years now and they are part of me. I am now able to think of a card and shuffle the pack, split into 3 decks, collect back together and take the top card and that be the card I asked for! I am not saying "Hey check me out", just trying to show what can be achieved. Will it take 10 years? I'm afraid I don't know? As with all of these things it takes time but you will have whatever you need to keep you going from day one. When doing readings get into a routine, shuffle a certain way, hand the cards over using your left, so you always do the readings the same way. It may change whilst you find out what works best for you but do go with whatever feels right.
So you have your set of cards? I would suggest you learn the cards by using the Major one's first, then suite by suit, then picture cards and finally all together. Do not worry if you are reading for people and you have to keep looking in a book, so what? This may not be a good idea if you are charging for it though.
Read for your friends, even 'read' for yourself. Use the Major cards to start off with. One point I should have made earlier, DO NOT ASK THE PERSON WHAT THEY WANT TO KNOW. This can taint your reading, you only want to know if it made sense to the person or not. Ok sit whoever it is down, do candles if you want and at the very least try and be free from distractions then take your 3 deep breaths. Take it seriously as if you abuse any of this stuff it tends stops working, I think that's true but better to be safe I guess? Go through your personal routine of shuffling and whilst you are doing so give the cards purpose. You may say in your head "Cards, I wish you to speak true to me and connect to spirit for the good of this reading and my development" or whatever you want. I normally ask my clients to take the cards in their left hand (left side is the creative side) and shuffle until they are comfortable and then I ask them to ask (in their heads) for guidance. Once shuffled I ask them to cut the pack into 3 and then place the pack back together and hand them back to me. I take them in my left hand and begin to read.
Tarot takes a little bit of time but it can be a most powerful tool in seeing the things that are not yet known. You may also be reading the cards and another piece of information comes in that is not shown by the cards, go with it as it may well be a direct spirit connection. I would suggest reading for people at work as although you know them you do not know their personal lives that well. Also once you start you will be inundated with people wanting readings. If you ever feel that you do not want to read for a person for whatever reason, Don't!
Crystal Ball.
The thing of myths and legends? Hmmm, not so sure on this one. I believe that it works and believe that there is much of the old ways hidden within the crystal ball. I have dearly wished for my ball to work with amazing results but alas the best I have seen is the ball cloud over with a kind of smoke. I have felt the energy from the ball and this was very really. I will explain the 'feeling' of energy in the Reiki section, hopefully. Anyway back to the crystal ball. Apart from being a cool piece of kit it also looks good out on the shelf but be warned if you have a lot of negative people about they may well pass on energy to the ball. This is the same for all of the tools of the trade, respect them, keep them safe, keep them close (within reason) and keep horrible people away from them.
Crystal balls do not have to be expensive and I guess it is a bit of bugger if you buy one for divination only to find it does not work for you! You can start by using a dark bowl with water in it. Candle light works best and 'yes' I am sure people will say "Well if the lights are dim then you are going to see things" and to a certain extent they would be true however....... We are not talking about a full manifestation of spirit floating around in your washing up bowl for all to see, we are talking about you seeing (not necessarily with your eye's) whatever it is that you are meant to see and how that is interpreted by you. I may see something different to what you would or I may see nothing at all.
I have not given up with the crystal ball as I definitely have a feeling that it works and I have sensed some things with it but just not full blown seeing stuff. I will get back to connecting with it and let you know how I get on. If anyone has had success with a ball I would be very interested to hear about it.
Dice.
I find that wooden dice work best but up to you, if you have plastic you have plastic. Now then spirit does not like using the dice for divination but they will use it to prove it works. Yep, they have told me this and they even used the dice to tell me so! They do have a sense of humour by the way. They do not like the dice as it is very 'either or',' Yes or No' and that's not really fair for spirit as many things in life are not quite that simple. OK back to the dice. Again spend some time with it in order to connect.
I normally set my rule as '6' for a 'yes' and anything else as 'no'. I then check the answer by asking if the last answer was correct and true using the above rule.
You could always write down 6 answers on a piece of paper having one of them as a 'don't know' and then throw. Maybe ask about things you already know the answer to in order to test it. As with all of these things they are meant to be tested. Do you think that people all over the world do 'these things' knowing full well it doesn't work? I for one can think of better ways to spend my day if that were true.
You can also practice the psychic side with the dice by asking the dice to give you the number you are thinking of. Now don't go practicing and then off to the casino to make your fortune will you?!
Just take your time with all of the above and don't expect immediate results but do make a note of what you do get. I regret not writing more down when I first started doing this kind of thing as you often forget what it was like. I remember being totally frustrated by it knowing that it worked but not being able to switch it on and off. Now it seems like I have always been at this level, whatever level this is?
